If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, countryside celebration that still feels stylish and thoughtfully put together, The Farmhouse at Redcoats might just steal your heart. Tucked away in the Hertfordshire countryside, it was the perfect setting for Sam and Andi’s joyful spring wedding – a day full of laughter, personal details and the kind of dance floor that guests talk about for years.
As a Hertfordshire wedding photographer, I adore photographing Redcoats weddings. The combination of rustic barns, open fields and cosy corners means there’s always a beautiful backdrop for every moment – from morning preparations right through to the last song.

Sam and Andi wanted a venue that felt warm and inviting, somewhere they could bring all their favourite people together for a relaxed “all in one place” celebration. The Farmhouse at Redcoats ticked every box:
Most of all, they loved that Redcoats felt personal and intimate – like a country home that had been opened just for them and their guests.
The morning started nearby with Andi, her bridesmaids and plenty of giggles. The girls wore matching blush-pink satin robes, each personalised with their names across the back – a lovely little keepsake and a fun way to start the day.
Natural light streamed into the room as hair and makeup were finished, Prosecco was poured and stories were shared. These quieter, in–between moments are some of my favourites to photograph – they’re full of anticipation and emotion, but also a sense of calm before everything begins.
Before leaving, we paused on the staircase for a few portraits of Andi in her dress. The fitted lace gown with a long, flowing veil suited her perfectly, and the soft neutral walls created a beautifully simple backdrop that let her – and that bouquet of fresh greenery and cream roses – shine.

Over at The Farmhouse at Redcoats, Sam was getting ready with his best man and groomsmen. They opted for navy suits, waistcoats and tan shoes – a classic combination that worked really well against the warm tones of the barn.
We captured a few relaxed portraits of the guys before guests began to arrive. One of the things I love about Redcoats weddings is how everything flows so naturally: guests can wander between the bar, the courtyard and the ceremony barn, catching up and soaking in the atmosphere as they wait for the day to begin.
Sam and Andi chose to hold their ceremony in the beautiful barn at The Farmhouse at Redcoats, and it couldn’t have been a better decision.
The aisle was lined with flickering candles and soft foliage, leading up to two dramatic clouds of gypsophila framing the registrar’s table. Against the rustic wooden walls and exposed beams, the effect was romantic and timeless – a perfect example of how well the venue works with a candlelit, floral-led look.
As the music began and Andi walked down the aisle with her dad, you could feel the emotion in the room. Sam’s expression said everything. They exchanged heartfelt vows, slipped rings onto each other’s fingers and sealed it all with a kiss to a round of applause from their guests.
From a photography point of view, the barn at Redcoats is a dream. The rich wood tones, twinkling lights and warm ambience make it ideal for capturing those emotional moments in a way that feels both intimate and cinematic.

After the ceremony, everyone spilled outside for confetti, canapés and drinks. The weather had that springtime mix of fresh air and moody skies – perfect for photographs.
One of the advantages of a wedding at The Farmhouse at Redcoats is the number of sheltered outdoor spots. Sam and Andi used the brick-walled barn area for their family and wedding party photos. The textured bricks add depth and warmth to the images, while the overhang gives just enough cover if the weather is a little breezy (as Andi’s veil can confirm!).
We kept the group shots relaxed and efficient so that Sam and Andi could get back to their guests. Their bridesmaids in blush pink dresses, paired with simple gypsophila bouquets, looked fantastic against the brickwork – proof that you don’t need over-complicated styling for photos to feel stylish and polished.

Sam and Andi put a lot of love into the little details of their day, and The Farmhouse at Redcoats was the perfect backdrop for them.
On the tables, personalised Scrabble-tile place names sat alongside tiny glass bottles of colourful drinks, each one tagged with the guest’s name and a playful message. The relaxed rustic styling – glassware, candles and soft florals – suited the barn beautifully without ever feeling overdone.
Their “cake” was actually a tiered tower of cheeses, decorated with figs and greenery – a brilliant choice for a foodie couple and a real talking point for guests. The rich textures and colours photographed beautifully against the dark curtains of the barn.
These details aren’t just pretty elements to capture; they’re part of how you tell the full story of a wedding day. When Sam and Andi look back on their gallery, they’ll see not only the big moments, but the thoughtful touches they poured into making the day feel like “them”.
One of my favourite parts of any Redcoats wedding is slipping away for a short couple’s session in the surrounding fields and lanes. You’re only ever a few steps from open countryside, which means you can get those soft, romantic portraits without being away from your guests for too long.
As the sun dipped towards the horizon, we headed out with Sam and Andi for a quiet walk and a few portraits. The sky treated us to a dramatic sunset, and we used a little creative lighting to balance the couple against the rich colours of the evening.
These moments together gave Sam and Andi a chance to breathe, laugh and take in the day so far – something many couples tell me later was one of their favourite memories.

Back inside The Barn at Redcoats, the room was set for dinner. Long tables were dotted with candles and delicate arrangements of gypsophila and roses, continuing the soft floral theme from the ceremony.
The speeches were full of heart – plenty of stories, a few embarrassing moments and more than one tearful eye. I always work quietly during this part of the day, moving between perspectives to capture both the speaker’s energy and the reactions around the room: pride, laughter, surprise and the occasional head-in-hands moment.
In a venue like The Farmhouse at Redcoats, the warm tones and low lighting of the barn lend themselves perfectly to storytelling photography, creating images that feel atmospheric and honest.

Once the formalities were over, it was time for the party – and this is where Sam and Andi’s day really ramped up.
Their first dance was emotional and full of soft smiles, framed by the barn’s fairy lights and the excited faces of family and friends. From there, the dance floor stayed full all night. At one point, we gathered everyone together for a huge group shot – a sea of cheering faces, raised glasses and pure celebration that really captures the spirit of the evening.
Later on, we snuck outside for a few night-time portraits featuring the vintage tractor at Redcoats. The bridesmaids had already made the most of it earlier in the night (in full pink-dress glory!), so it was only right that Sam and Andi had their own moment there too. With some creative lighting, these images have a fun, editorial feel while still being completely true to the energy of the day.

Having photographed several Redcoats weddings, there are a few things that always stand out for me as a photographer – and that couples love too:

For most couples, the biggest hopes for their wedding photos look something like this:
That’s exactly how I approach every wedding I photograph at The Farmhouse at Redcoats and across Hertfordshire.
I take time to get to know you both beforehand so that on the day, it feels as though you have another friend by your side – one who just happens to be capturing all the important moments. I’ll step in with direction during portraits and group photos, but otherwise melt into the background, watching for those little glances, hugs and bursts of laughter that say more than any posed shot ever could.
Because I’ve worked at Redcoats before, I know how the light moves through the barns, where to head for quick couple photos if the weather turns, and how to plan your timeline so that you can make the most of golden hour or evening portraits without being away from your guests for long.

If you’re considering a wedding at The Farmhouse at Redcoats and would love photos that are relaxed, creative and filled with genuine emotion, I’d be honoured to be part of your day.
With award-winning experience, a calm and organised approach and a genuine love for building friendships with my couples, I’ll be with you every step of the way – from first enquiry to album delivery. Your story matters, and it deserves to be told with care.
