As a photographer, every day is a journey of creativity, passion, and hard work. But every now and then, something truly special happens that makes all those late nights, early mornings, and countless hours of editing worthwhile.
Earlier this year, I was approached by the Herts & Beds Wedding Awards team and asked if I would like to put myself forward for the Photographer of the Year category at their annual awards ceremony. Without hesitation, I said yes—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I’ve always known that the wedding industry in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire is packed with talented suppliers, from florists and planners to venues and, of course, photographers. With so many incredible photographers based in this region, the competition was bound to be fierce. But I saw this as a unique opportunity to challenge myself, connect with fellow wedding industry professionals, and gain a deeper understanding of how I run my business and serve my couples.
The application process was intense. I was asked detailed questions about the equipment I use, how I approach my work on the day of the wedding, what I would do in various unexpected situations, and more. It made me reflect deeply on my journey as a wedding photographer and how far I’ve come.
To my absolute amazement, I received the incredible news that I had made it to the final four, alongside three other talented photographers. Being chosen as a finalist felt surreal, and I was both thrilled and humbled to be in such esteemed company.
The awards ceremony was held at Tewinbury Farm—a beautiful venue that was the perfect backdrop for such a prestigious event. It was a truly magical night, beautifully organized with entertainment, a delicious sit-down meal, and stunning glass awards that reflected the elegance of the evening. The evening ended with a lively disco, allowing everyone to unwind and celebrate the achievements of the night.
As the evening went on, I was on edge, eagerly waiting for the Photographer of the Year category to be announced. When my name was called, I was absolutely blown away. To hear my name announced as Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Wedding Photographer of the Year 2025 was one of the most surreal and magical moments of my career. I walked up to the stage, my heart racing, and collected my award—something I had always dreamed of, but never truly expected to happen.
Standing there, holding that beautiful glass trophy, I felt a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. This award is not just a reflection of my work, but of all the amazing couples I’ve had the privilege of working with, the incredible venues I’ve photographed in, and the talented suppliers who have supported me along the way.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Herts & Beds Wedding Awards team for this recognition, as well as to all the wonderful couples who have trusted me to capture their special days. Your support means the world to me. I also want to congratulate all the other finalists and winners who were honoured that night. It’s an honour to be part of such a talented and supportive community.
As I continue my journey as a wedding photographer, this award serves as both a validation of the work I’ve done and a motivation to keep pushing myself to grow and evolve in my craft. It’s proof that hard work, dedication, and a passion for what you do can lead to amazing things—and that dreams really do come true.
